Comment: Hi, I think that this is a great site, especially for first timers. Its informative about the breed and the show. The picture gallery is great. One thing I would like to ask is how do you stop a 14month old very hormonal boy marking in the house I'm having a nightmare with mine, any advise greatly appreciated.
Hello Dawn,
Thank you for your comments, I am pleased you enjoyed our webite.Regarding your problem with your dog, depending where he is marking, may I suggest wipe down regularly with disinfectant wipes but be careful there is no bleach in them, or baby wipes. If you see him marking take him outside and do not bring him inside until he has stopped doing it,
Cynthia.

Comment: Hi Cynthia, hope you are all well. Well I finally got my boy in the show ring and although there was only a few dogs at the Ashton in Makerfield show Feb 24. I was really proud and gobsmacked of my boy he got BOB which I thought was good going for his first outing and knowing how naughty he can be at training classes. My little girl was made up. I would like to say thank you for kind words and congratualtions off the other BT people that I met there that day. I would also like to take the opportunity to say to all the BT people going to Crufts this year Best Wishes and Good Luck, have a wonderfull time and hopefully I will be joining you all next year.xx

Comment: 12 months ago my lovely border terrier - Penny - 3 years old - started hacking/wheezing and then was sick - white slimy foam when out walking. This happens every time we walk her and it leaves her exhausted. She cannot enjoy walks at the moment. She has been under the vets for 12 months with no cure - she has had steroids, antibiotics, procedures to look at her windpipe/throat - no diagnosis/cure has been found. Any advice would be greatly appreciated to get her back to normal. Thanks.
Hello Lisa, Other than dogs chewing grass and being sick I don't know what it can be. Maybe someone else can offer you advice on the subject. Cynthia.

Hello Matthew,
You do not have to be a member of the club to enter the open show, but if you win a trophy at the show you could not have the trophy and your win points would not be counted for annual trophies.

Comment: Hi Cynthia The lady named Jayne who is having problems with her puppy eating. Has she ever tried feeding him a raw diet. My eldest dog was a very fussy eater but since being on a raw diet of tripe, minced chicken/beef, liver (this only 1 a fortnight) nat yogurt, veg fruit and oats. Also some days they have pilchards, nature diet and either chappie or butchers tripe. I also make my own dog mixer. There is a website called Landywoods these supply quality raw dog food but they also explain how and why to feed a raw diet. Hope this may be of some help. Kind Regards Dawn

Comment: Hello Cynthia. This is for dawn Ashcroft. Thank you for your advise re raw feeding my dog. I changed him onto raw feed a couple of months ago and he loved it!!He seemed to gain wieght, look and behave better. Then all of a sudden he went straight off it. He wouldnt even go near his bowl. So now we are on Bakers puppie and he is ok on it. I keep giving him some raw chicken minced and he has started to eat it again.I dont understand why he went off it so dramatically though. I will give it to him every few days and see what happens. I have been getting it from a local dog trainer, but my try other place too, could it have been a bad batch or something? I dont know.Maybe I should have added more variety? I would like him to have a more natural diet so will keep persevering. If you have any more tips, I would be grateful. Thanks Jayne Tolan

Hello Anthony,
Thank you for your e-mail.
With regards to your puppy, if he is only growling at people in your own house it could be he is protecting his territory and you from strangers. You could try not letting people stroke him until he gets used to them being there by both yourself and other people ignoring him while you sit and talk etc. After a while they could then try to stroke him to see what is reaction is.

Comment: Hi Cynthia - thanks for the information regarding border stripping in Lancashire. We have had our border stripped and the job was done expertly. I am now looking for advice on walking our 9 month old border terrier. My husband and I are long distance walkers and intend to take our border out with us in the future. She currently walks for 35 mins 3 times a day. When can we start to increase this? Can anyone advise? There is such conflicting information on the internet and we don't want to cause any harm.
Hello Jeanette,
Pleased you found someone and got your stripped. With regards to walking your puppy, I would increase the walk by say 5 mins each few days and see how he goes. Don't push him too much, you should be able to tell if you are walking him too much. By gradualy increasing his walks will help his muscles harden.
Regards,
Cynthia.

Comment: I lost my dear old border bitch just before Christmas after 15 great years. I have just put a deposit down on an adorable pup, who should be coming home in 2 weeks time. As my previous dog was about 18 months old when I got her, and was already used to being stripped, I was wondering at what age to start stripping and is it better to keep on top of it weekly or do the twice yearly thing? Any advice welcome!
Hello Helen,
Thank you for your e-mail.
You only strip a Border Terrier as and when needed, usualy about twice a year. The puppy will not require stripping for a few months, you will know when it needs stripping, just as you did with the Border you had before. Regards, Cynthia.

Comment: We had our first Border Terrier pup at the end of January and I'd love to go along to a show just to see what goes on - can I bring the dog with me? This may seem an obvious question but I'm a total newbie!!
Hello Jordana,
You can visit any show you wish, but unfortunately you can not take your puppy with you. Unenterd dogs are not allowed at shows and a dog has to be six months of age before you can show it. Regards, Cynthia.

Comment: Hello, I have a beautiful Border terrier Lexi and we live in the Bolton area. From past comments posted I see you know details of a good hand stripper in the area. Lexi is 9 months old and hasn't been stripped yet so she does need sorting but I want it to be done properly and professionally. The groomers I have contacted have all said they don't do hand stripping anymore and have just said not many do either. If anyone can please help I would appreciate it. Thanks in anticipation, Caroline

Comment: Hi. I have a 2 year old male border terrier. We love him dearly and would love for him to have a female companion. We do not want a puppy. Can anyone advise me where to look for a nice mature bitch for Sid to cuddle up to.
Hello Jane,
I do not know of anyone with a mature bitch at present but I will keep your name on file and contact you should I hear of one. You could also contact the Border Welfare.

Cynthia.

Comment: Hi, I have a 3 year old border bitch just at the end of her season. I have just given her her second strip for the year and notice that it has revealed to large patches on the top of her back which are a lot thinner than her usual coat left after stripping. Infact I can nearly see her skin. She is not distressed but as this has not happened before its me thats concerned as to what it might be. Your advice would be much appreciated. Many thanks.
Hello Denise,
It could be with her having had a season as coats can alter during seasons. If the skin is red and she is scratching it could be skin mites, if you are concerned I would suggest taking her to the Vet.

Cynthia.

Comment: Thank you Cynthia. I would be happy with any bitch a year or older. We have no plans of showing or breeding from her so I am not interested in her being a "perfect looking girl". Personality is more important. Thank you, Jayne Tolan

Comment: We have a BT dog aged 9 months who was stripped 5 days ago. I have just noticed 3 small sist / spots on his back between his front shoulders and 2 larger spots on his back between his back legs. Can these be as a result of him being stripped. Ted was stripped by a lady who shows, breads and strips other BTS so i am confident he has been done properly. Regards Carl
Hello Carl,
I have never experienced this happening to any dogs that we have had, so I would not think the cysts are anything to do with stripping the dog. I would let a Vet have a look at him.
Regards,
Cynthia.
HAS ANYONE EXPERIENCED THIS, IF SO PLEASE LET ME KNOW

She won't entertain me doing it, do you know any professional hand stripper in West Yorkshire area who could help me? - I live near Cleckheaton - I have a 7 year old dog that I have always sorted myself without issue. Any suggestions would be welcomed.
